Annual Report 2011

A Message to Our Supporters

For decades, we have been thankful for the extraordinary gift we received from James and Sallie Dooley. The Dooleys shared their American Estate with the Richmond community so we could experience the beauty of their home or just escape the pressures of the day, and their gift has inspired many similar acts of kindness to sustain Maymont through the years. One of the greatest of these gifts was received during fiscal year 2011 from Mrs. Lora M. Robins, a founding member of the Maymont Foundation. Through her estate, Mrs. Robins gave us an amazing contribution to the general endowment. Her generosity will ensure that the foundation can continue to preserve and celebrate Maymont for the pleasure and education of our guests and generations to come.

Among the goals of our work in fiscal year 2011, we honored the Dooleys’ gift and the gifts of others by providing our guests with enhanced, meaningful and appropriately appointed experiences. Areas of concentration included improving infrastructure, creating organizational sustainability and heightening connectivity to our community and donors.

As you read through the highlights of our year, you’ll note our successes would not have been possible without the generous support of you – our donors, volunteers, members and community partners. This public generosity is a natural continuation of the generosity the Dooleys showed when they left Maymont to the people.

MAYMONT: AN AMERICAN ESTATE

This fiscal year, we implemented new Maymont brand positioning including a new logo and the descriptor "An American Estate." In an effort to improve our communications, we conducted research with our members, donors, leaders and the general public and used this information to shape this new brand identity. We hope this effort will encourage a better understanding of the property itself, its significance as a great American estate, and the extraordinary gifts that allow it to be enjoyed by all.
