Thank you for your interest in becoming a Maymont volunteer. We think
you'll agree that few organizations offer such a variety of volunteer
opportunities, or need your support as critically.
Volunteer hours provide Maymont with the equivalent of 11 full-time
staff members. They are an integral part of our organization and serve
in a number of capacities. Time commitments vary; special events volunteers
may work only one or two days a year, while other volunteers work several
hours a month. If you are at least 16 years of age and have a little
time to spare, Maymont has a position for you.

Volunteer Opportunities at Maymont
Animals & Habitats
The job of keeping all of Maymont's animals happy and healthy is not
for the faint of heart, but if you don't mind getting a little dirty,
this is a very gratifying job. Maymont is home to hundreds of animals,
some of whom are orphaned or injured. Assist the zoology staff on their
rounds to the Wildlife Exhibits and the Children's Farm and get a hands-on
education about native Virginia animals and their care.
Gardens & Horticulture
Like playing in the dirt? Maymont's small team of professional horticulturists
needs your help to maintain the estate's 100 acres. Garden volunteers
can be found pruning, raking, planting, shoveling and weeding their
way through the day, all to make Maymont's grounds and gardens more
beautiful. No experience is necessary, we'll teach you as you go!
Maymont House
From giving tours of the mansion to donning period costumes, Maymont
House volunteers are immersed in the Gilded Age. Volunteers enjoy learning and teaching othersabout Major and Mrs. Dooley, their grand
home and much more. Maymont House volunteers share a special camaraderie,
and the staff strives to provide them with an enriching experience,
complete with trips to fascinating places. Join our dedicated corps
of volunteers and help open the door to our Victorian past for our many
visitors.
The Maymont Shop
It's like retail, only more fun! The Maymont Shop is always hopping
with visitors who want to remember their trip with a little something,
so our Shop Manager is always looking for cheery individuals to help
at the cash register selling Maymont memorabilia, books, jewelry, toys
and much more.
Nature & Visitor Center
Otters, fish, turtles and more! Nature Center docents receive specialized
training to work in the exhibits and with the animals. Visitor Center
volunteers are our guests' first and best source of information, introducing
them to Maymont's 100 acres. Nature & Visitor Center volunteers enjoy
working alongside our top-notch team of zoologists and educators, and
are critical to the ongoing success of this state-of-the-art facility.
