Your take-home log will be approximately four feet long and four to six inches in diameter, and will produce two pounds of mushrooms per year for five years. $25 per person/$20 Maymont & Old Dominion Herb Society members.
RAIN BARRELS 101 Presented by Katie Register, Clean Virginia Waterways, and a representative from the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay 1:30 – 2:30 pm, Stone Barn Learn how to install and maintain an eco-friendly rain barrel, and find out how you can play a part in water conservation and water quality protection. Rain barrels capture roof runoff, providing water for your gardens or lawn, and they help control storm water runoff, which causes erosion and degrades our streams. You will leave the workshop with a pre-made rain barrel (holds approximately 55 gallons) made from a heavy plastic, recycled pickle barrel. Clean Virginia Waterways is a nonprofit, statewide environmental organization affiliated with Longwood University. $65 per person/$60 Maymont & Old Dominion Herb Society members.
Can't make it to Rain Barrels 101 during Herbs Galore & More? The class will also be offered on Wednesday, April 21, 6-7pm; call 804-358-7166, ext. 310. Be prepared with a vehicle large enough to take your rain barrel home that day. (Maymont is not able to store it for future pick-up).
All classes are limited to 50 attendees. Class fees are non-refundable except in the event of program cancellation. The Herbs Galore & More festival is held rain or shine.
